Next week, OffGrid Radio starts broadcasting from it's new home, nestled between a couple of corporate dinosaur rock stations called The Loop and The Drive. By the end of the month we hope to be giving you six solid broadcast hours a day, 6pm to midnight, Sunday to Thursday.

To celebrate, we're throwing a party at PEOPLEPROJECTS, right next to the Congress Theatre at 2129 N Milwaulkee on Friday the 14th at 10pm.

There will be beer for sale, vegan jello shots, and DJ sets by Rand Sevilla, Protman, Livewire, Eric lab Rat and DJ Demchuk.

Our last party paid for most of our equipment, and we're hoping that the money from this one just keeps us alive. We're asking for a 5 dollar donation, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Hopefully you can come out, but if you can't, stay tuned to 97.5 fm for further events, music, and sonic dissonance.

Cheers,
OffGrid Radio

STOP THE TRANSIT CUTS

Come help organize to stop the lay-offs, fare hikes and service cuts. Let's unify for our right to an expanded
public and para-transit system for all.

Come to a free showing and discussion of "Bus Riders' Union," a feature length documentary by Academy Award winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler.

"This is a documentary that traces three years in the life of the Los Angeles Bus Riders Union as it forges a powerful multiracial movement to fight transit racism, clean up LA's lethal auto pollution, and win billion-dollar victories for real mass transit for the masses." - Atlanta Transit Riders Union

Following the first part of the film, we will discuss building rider-driver unity.  We will break up into working-groups of the newly formed Rider-Driver Alliance to answer:  Without increasing our taxes or cutting our pension and healthcare rights, how can we stop lay-offs, fares hikes and service cuts?  How can we fight for a world-class public transit system for all?

Co-sponsors:  Committee For A Better Chicago, Concerned Citizens of Paratransit, Independent Movement of Paratransit Riders for Unity, Vehicles, Equality (IMPRUVE), Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO), Sustainable Chicago 2016

For more info contact: LVEJO, 773-762-6991 IMPRUVE 773-416-7366; publictransit@lvejo.org    *ADA Accessible space.

HARDCORE HISTORIES: Midwest Hardcore Video Blow-Out!
at ausgang studios
1958 W. Walnut (between Fulton and Lake on Damen)

Earlier in the summer, we received a massive package of more than 8 hours of exceedingly rare live footage of midwestern hardcore bands on DVD from Jeff Barratt-McCartney. Jeff had just received the material himself and could not contain his enthusiasm. Very little of this stuff is on YouTube. None of it is commercially available from what  we can tell. Nearly all of the material was filmed in the midwest between 1982-83 - in Michigan bingo halls, in backyards, in long defunct Ohio clubs, in people's homes and on public access TV. Some of the picture and sound quality is very good, some is the best that can be expected from a clunky borrowed VHS camcorder that probably weighed 15 pounds.

Included, sometimes playing multiple sets at different venues, are: The Crucifucks, MDC, The Dicks, SS Decontrol, Toxic Reasons, Violent Apathy, Minor Threat, The Necros, Rights of the Accused, The Meatmen, L-7, The Circle Jerks, Zero Defex and a ton more.

With ausgang studios providing the king-size digital projection and sound in the yard and with Jeff as our Michigan historian, we will make our way through as much of this material as we can stand, from dark until the last stage dive. There will be a grill going so bring food to cook and beverages to share. All ages.
....................................................................
Note: During an event at ausgang studios last weekend, someone vile person stole the communally shared video projector that Melinda has been using for countless free screenings all over the city. This event is happening only because we've secured a loan for the night. While this event is free, please consider bringing a donation to help purchase a new projector so that free film screenings can continue at the same unrelenting pace as they have all Summer.

Hardcore Histories is an event series  devoted to unpacking the history of Hardcore punk music through presentations, discussions, free posters, meals and interactive social events. The series is currently co-organized by Marc Fischer, Terence Hannum, and Andre Foisy. Normally Hardcore Histories is presented at Mess Hall, however the opportunity to grill and sit outside in the yard proved too irresistible this time around.

Iraq Veterans Against the War Kicks Off "Befriend A Recruiter" Campaign

The Iraq Veterans Against the War
(IVAW) will kick off its "Befriend a Recruiter" campaign Sept. 17,
which encourages concerned citizens to help end the war in Iraq by
befriending a recruiter and wasting military recruiters' time.

As part of the IVAW "Truth in Recruiting" campaign, this action
encourages anyone opposed to the Iraq war to tie up the resources of
their local recruitment offices by pretending to be interested in
military service. The goal of this project is to prevent recruiters
from talking to anyone who is genuinely interested in joining the
Armed Forces.

The IVAW campaign aims to educate the public about the lies
recruiters tell to bolster their ranks. As recruitment numbers
continue to fall in response to Americans' decreasing support for the
Iraq War, the Armed Forces have lowered their standards for
eligibility and started using misleading tools, like video games, to
glorify the experience of going to war.

The "Befriend a Recruiter" campaign will subvert this system and help
end the Iraq War by keeping these recruiters from doing their job.
Anyone can take part in this operation by simply setting up an
appointment with a recruiter and spending as much time with them as
possible, said Aaron Hughes, president of the Chicago chapter of IVAW.

"By flooding recruiters and recruitment centers with phone calls,
appointments, questions and smiling faces, recruiters will waste their
time and resources on us," Hughes said. "By calling and asking every
question we can think of about the false opportunities the military is
offering, we are taking away recruiters' ability to recruit and thus
helping to end the war and occupation of Iraq."

The kickoff is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17 at
a local recruitment center. The location will be announced the day of
the event. For more information, visit www.befriendarecruiter.org or
contact Aaron Hughes at 217-898-9083 or Chicago@ivaw.org.
