AREA Chicago’s issue #13, to be released in December/January, will focus on Housing and Home. We invite contributions — text, image, and video — dealing with housing in a concrete sense (specific sites, buildings, histories, and activist campaigns) or a broader sense (definitions and creative interventions into the idea of “home”).
Content should have a Chicago focs and will emphasize grassroots practices.

Possible topics may include • stories and destinations of former CHA residents • organizing around the foreclosure crisis and tenants’ rights • schools, neighborhoods, and gentrification • apartment galleries and house museums • linking student debt and housing debt • undocumented youth: where is home? • when “home” is a prison • housing and environment • homelessness: homeless veterans, homeless youth, homelessness and queer sexualities/sexual minorities • “home work”/domestic labor: cottage industries and gray markets; gender and unpaid labor; when the workplace is someone else’s home • domestic abuse • the Occupy movement and its “homes” • sex workers, housing, and home • seniors and home • histories of struggle against housing discrimination in Chicago • what do house and home mean to you?
